Module Aims
To develop a range of work-related skills with the necessary underpinning knowledge for effective practice in a vocational setting. This will include understanding the contemporary issues the student will experience whilst working in the health/social care and well being sector.
Content Summary
Employment skills
e.g. CV writing, career opportunities in the health & social care sector, covering letters, interview techniques, networking, maintaining a professional online presence, and entrepreneurship. Identifying opportunities for professional development within the chosen career pathway, sources of funding and development planning (CPD)
Professional practice
e.g. Communication skills (written and oral), self-reflection, confidence building, workplace relationships, teamwork and team building and other essential skills required for a career in health and social care (e.g. dementia awareness, mental health awareness).
Contemporary Issues
e.g. – working in health/social care/wellbeing. The links between social issues and health and social care professional practice, Social policy and its relevance, interpretation and impact on practice at operational, strategic, local and national levels, Broader health determinants which shape people’s lives.
