Module Aims

To develop a critical understanding of theory and evidence-base supporting the use of creative approaches in counselling and psychotherapy.

To facilitate the ability to work therapeutically with clients using a variety of creative methods and tasks.

Content Summary

Creativity drawing on Theory and Evidence:

Traditional and emerging theoretical models and frameworks for integrating creativity

New wave Cognitive Behavioural approaches

Psychoanalysis, Attachment theory, grief and loss

Developmental psychology

Neuroscience & physiological science

Qualitative, quantitative and mixed studies from a range of professional disciplines

Creative Approaches:

Creative writing and narrative work

Imagery

Dreams work

Use of photography in counselling & psychotherapy

Adapting creative approaches for online therapy

Emerging approaches from research studies and developments in creative practice

In order to meet the Professional Practice criteria for the course it is a requirement that you attend and actively participate in at least 80% of all timetabled lectures, sessions and other learning activities arranged as part of this module.
