Module Aims

To support and develop student’s skills and abilities to ensure they are able to identify opportunities and engage with play, games and adventure education as tools for applying social pedagogic principles in working with young people in community settings.

For the student to examine the development of young people through the medium of play, games and adventure education, with emphasis on social pedagogic standards and the application of play, games and adventure in their work with children and families..

How do play and games inform adventurous educative experiences?

Critical analysis of the function of games, play & Adventure education in Y&C work.

Three ‘play, games and adventure experience days’ will be timetabled as complementary to formal learning and teaching and are included in the hours detail below. The experience days will enable students to apply the knowledge that they have learnt in class, and learn how to share skills with children and families in a placement context. This will likely include Forest Schools, Canoeing and Bushcraft based activities.
