Module Aims

To provide students with the knowledge of assessment tools, models and methods used in the field when Working with Children and Families.

To learn how to engage families in activities that will be beneficial to the effective functioning of the family.

Content Summary

Students will learn about the following methods/models/approaches when Working with Children and Families:

Parent engagement/ support

How to work restoratively with families

Attachment theory

Circle of security

Solihul approach

Trauma informed practice

Non-violent resistant approaches

Parenting strategies

Risk assessments

ACEs

Reviewing assessment

Common assessment framework

Multi agency working/ team around the family

Intervention strategies

Analysis process

PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, empathy)

Students will be exposed to a variety of different case studies and scenarios and will meet with professionals from the field to deepen their understanding of these methods and processes. Student will develop practical skills alongside these methods, for example, they will practice doing referrals, practice having what matters? Conversations drawing on skills learnt from the communication, counselling and therapeutic skills module at level 4.
