Module Aims

To allow students to explore and experience a range of placement settings via fieldwork visits including the addition of blended / remote practice elements that can enhance placement opportunities.

To develop student’s practical skills to facilitate the effective engagement and participation of children, young people, and / or families in a diverse range of practice situations.

To provide students with the opportunity to observe self and apply their learning through reflective writing in a placement setting with focus on their personal role within anti-discriminative and anti-oppressive practice.

Content Summary

Students to undertake practical ‘taster’ experiences in variety of community settings.

Students to develop their learning around:

Physical skills – activity-based provision

Cognitive skills – debate, discussion, critical thinking

Social skills – exploring difficult conversations, mediating and facilitating,.

Creative skills – practical modules

Emotional skills – exploring attitudes, understanding, empathy, patience, flexibility,

Role of supervision and supervisor

Role and responsibilities of community-based support roles

Anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice

Challenge discrimination and oppression

On campus experiences - Guess speakers and visits from key projects and organisations that can raise the profile of professional placement opportunities.

Students to develop a critically reflective approach to highlight strengths and skills for working in a diverse range of placement settings
