Module Aims

This module introduces students to event theory and practice, via the planning and management of a live event.

Content Summary

Event management is a growing industry worth billions of pounds to the UK economy each year. Marketers benefit from having event management experience on their CV’s, but the skills that are developed through the planning and management of events are equally valuable, such as research, communication, and negotiation.

In this module you will work as a group to plan and manage an event within a 10-week timeframe. You will be assessed via an individual report which evidences your role in the event and how and why the event was successful or unsuccessful.

To enable you to successfully do this, you’ll learn about the following theory and practice of events;

Event research: How to evaluate whether there is demand for an event. Understanding attendee expectations.

Event planning: How to plan for a successful event. How to manage a budget. How to complete a risk assessment. How to work as a team.

Event management: How to run an event in real time. How to respond to issues at an event. How to reflect on the success or failure of an event.
