Module Aims

To provide a grounding in approaches to the interpretation and staging of existing scripts/texts, with particular focus on acting and directing process.

To nurture an appreciation and experience of group dynamics and collaboration as a basis for theatre making and performing.

Content Summary

This module provides a grounding in selected approaches to acting and directing. It is studio-based and focuses on scenework. Students investigate spontaneity, collaboration, fluency and imagination and the inner resources of the actor. They are to adhere closely to studio-based working practices / requirements including attendance, punctuality, dress code, participation and engagement, collaboration, ensemble and leadership in student-led studio time, participation in / responsiveness to reflective discussion and willingness to attempt new ways of approaching work. Experiential learning focused on texts is supported by contextual research, critical reflection, the integration of theory, exposure to the philosophies of specific practitioners and through e-learning on Blackboard / Y Porth. At the end of term ones and two there will be assessed performances concerned with their acting/performing work. There will also be an assessed opportunity for students to undertake film acting. Students will also submit a reflective logbook. This module contains immersive learning elements which will be completed in the second six weeks.
