Module Aims

1. To develop a critical awareness of the relevant legal and professional issues that arise in the context of project-orientated activities.

2. To provide students with a framework for conflict resolution in complex management situations.

3. To critically explore legal and ethical dilemmas arising during the project lifecycle by using case studies from a range of contexts.

4. To equip students with the expertise to enable them to successfully negotiate a range of challenges with respect to current legislation.

5. To highlight wider socio/political issue across the changing landscape of business and society with emphasis on ethics, professionalism and sustainability.

Content Summary

On completion of the module students should be able to:

1. Identify, understand and apply the main legal principles and developments within the law including:

Contract law;
Law of agency;
Law of tort;
Employment law (including health and safety);

2. Critically evaluate professional issues such as:

Procurement;
Risk management including monitoring/auditing;
Project planning, scheduling and control;
Budget management;
Quality management;
Conflict resolution.
