Module Aims
To develop students’ critical understanding of equality, human rights and social justice issues and concepts in public service
To enhance students’ ability to analyse the extent to which States are upholding their obligations as human rights defenders
To provide an opportunity to practice skills to promote and protect equality and human rights in policy development
Content Summary
The State’s duty-bearer obligations of respect, protect and fulfil human rights enshrined by international and domestic law, such as:
Universal Declaration of Human Rights
UN Conventions and instruments relating to children, older people, disabled people, gender equality, race equality, LGBTQ+ equality
Human Rights Act 1998
European Convention on Human Rights
Equality Act 2010
