Module Aims

To prepare students for the academic journey by developing and enhancing their personal and professional skills in Crime and Justice.

Content Summary

This module will allow students to understand the role of research, professional and study skills development, within an academic and professional context. 
 

Academic Skills: 

  • The role of study skills in academic development. 

  • Understanding individual learning styles 

  • Time management and the online study environment. 

  • Academic writing skills. 

  • Referencing and plagiarism in line with University of South Wales guidelines and regulations 

  • Use of AI and plagiarism. 

  • Use of TURNITIN. 

  • Effective use of literature searches using the institutional libraries and understanding the importance of credible and reliable sources. 

  • Strategies for effective reading and note taking. 

  • Critical writing, thinking and analysis. 

  • Assessment formats- Essays, reports, portfolio’s presentations, exams and online assessment tools. 

  • Strategies for delivering effective oral presentations 

  • Evaluating Source Credibility 

  • Criteria for evaluating the credibility of sources in criminal justice, including identifying reputable journals, authors, and publisher 

  • Public speaking tips and techniques 

  • The assessment process- understanding and interpreting assessment criteria and directing responses accordingly. 

  • Effective strategies for planning, structuring and presenting assignments. 

  • The assessment process- submission and feedback. 

  • Effective use of the library resources 

  • Strategies for effective reading and note taking. 

  • Digital Competency- tools to enhance research skills.
