Module Aims

This module is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to support the person with dementia, their carers and supporters in a care setting/context. This module will enable students to consider practice-based issues in relation to dementia care and support.

Content Summary

The module will explore current understanding around dementia from an epidemiological, biopsychosocial, legal and ethical perspective.

Fundamental to the module is the philosophy of person/relationship centred approaches to care and support. Concepts of well-being will be explored

The module will consider contemporary approaches to both assessment and pharmacological/non-pharmacological interventions.
