Module Aims

The module aims to develop the student’s specialist knowledge and skills in relation to research and quality improvement methodologies, frameworks and tools. These will enable effective leadership and implementation of quality improvement initiatives within their area of community practice.

Content Summary

Critical appraisal and application of a variety of quality improvement methodologies, frameworks and tools.

Developing the knowledge, skills and professional judgement required to effectively undertake quality impact assessments.

Effective use of technology in the collection and storage of data for analysis to inform service improvement plans.

Identifying the need for and co-producing strategies and plans for service design with people, families and communities to improve care outcomes.

Applying effective change management strategies and processes to effect positive change.

Critical appraisal of the evidence supporting specialist community practice.

Advanced understanding and application of research methodology including the location and selection of relevant research literature.

Types of research including qualitative, quantitative, systematic reviews, randomised control trials and Cochrane reviews.

Consideration of the level of the literature within the hierarchy of evidence.

The process of critical appraisal utilising a relevant appraisal tool e.g., Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP), Holland and Rees.

Appraising and applying health and safety legislation and regulations in the development of local policy and guidance to support staff working across the range of home and community environments.

Evaluating the findings and recommendations of internal and external risk reporting to develop action plans to mitigate risk.
