Module Aims
The aim of this module is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of complex legislation relevant to policing practices and procedures, enabling them to demonstrate a high level of competency in applying this legislation to typical policing incidents.
Content Summary
Examination of specific offences and legislation associated with typical policing incidents such as, but not limited to:
· Offences Against the Person Act 1861 (Including; Assault, ABH, GBH)
· Misuse of Drugs Act 1971
· Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984
· Public Order Act 1986, Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and Criminal Justice Act 2003, including:
· Riot
Violent disorder
Affray
· Fear or provocation of violence
· Harassment, alarm or distress
· Racially or religiously aggravated offences
· Aggravation related to disability, sexual orientation or transgender identity
Role of police in public order incidents
· Offensive Weapons Act 1996
· Firearms
· Misuse of Drugs Act
· Sexual Offences
· Criminal Damage Act 1971
