Module Aims

Develop practical skills in the preparation, organization, administration, marketing, installation, networking, and other essential vocational practices necessary when operating as a professional artist.

Generate ideas, concepts, proposals, solutions or arguments independently and collaboratively in the context of professional studies.

Effectively research and prepare a professional activity in negotiation with a host organisation and peers.

Record, analyse, and critically reflect on own practice.

Content Summary

For this module, students will engage in collaboratively organising an exhibition in an external venue, and teach the skills needed to identify personal strengths and weaknesses, skills development requirements, and how to promote the self and group as artists.

The module will give students the opportunity to transfer and develop skills within the context of a live project liaising with an external organization to conceive, organise and realise an art exhibition for the whole cohort.

Students will gain knowledge and experience of a professional working environment that will include; working on a gallery or museum installation, working collaboratively with other students, and working within the industry.

The module will equip the student with the business skills essential to working as an artist including:

 

·        Organising and implementing time management

·        Being dynamic and innovative within a given framework,

·        Promoting practice to a larger audience

·        Gaining experience of face-to-face self-promotion.

·        Establishing professional skills in project management and budgeting

·       Working within company guidelines

·       Developing an awareness of policy, risk, and the limitations when working in the professional arena

·        Creating an online professional presence and portfolio
