  • Enable students to devise and launch a crowd funding campaign to secure funding for their final films.

  • Support the role of visual and aural translation of concepts and ideas in creating meaning in film, by encouraging innovation, experimentation and originality.

Content Summary

This module provides students with the opportunity to translate and synthesise their varied experiences and knowledge of film concepts, practices and the industry, learnt over the previous two years, into a professional standard project.

Advanced Craft emphasises the important role of detailed project development within the process of filmmaking. It provides an opportunity to build on developed craft skills enabling the student to more fully realise the creative aspirations of their projects and advance their personal and professional development.

The module is designed to perform fseveral functions:

  • Rehearse production process and craft roles, laying the groundwork for professional level production on subsequent Advanced Filmmaking module.

  • Encourage interest in bold approaches in both the creation of content and in considering aesthetic strategies for audience engagement as part of the research and development phase of production.

  • Encourage approaches to storytelling that exploit the affective potential of the manipulation of audio and moving image material.

This module establishes a laboratory learning environment for creative investigation into the affective potential of audio-visual media.

Drawing on theoretical concepts of cinema studies which examine the ways in which audiences experience film as an embodied experience Individually students will take responsibility for their chosen craft skill exploration that will generate material content for further development.

This module will also educate students on crowdfunding and social media promotion and engagement – culminating in the launch of crowdfunding campaigns at the end of the module.

During this module in preparation for their film film, students will learn about sustainability and the Albert Certification, as part of this process students will have to:

  • Evidence a general understanding of the science of climate change and its impacts.

  • Identify / articulate the environmental impacts of a production making reference to a calculated carbon footprint and propose solutions to reduce the environmental impact of a production.
