Module Aims

This module aims to enable students to research and write up a dissertation or produce a creative major project on a negotiated, timetabled and agreed topic or project.
This module intends to develop students’ knowledge of research methods and their application to a chosen research topic or project. While doing so, the module encourages reflexivity towards their working practices and to integrate their knowledge and skills into a coherent dissertation or major project that works towards informed goals.

Content Summary

The purpose of this module is to support students in the planning, implementation and writing of a dissertation or creative major project in media and culture. Students will be guided in producing a statement of aims and objectives, a bibliography, a research methodology or industry/sector review and in constructing and writing a dissertation or creative major project on a subject agreed between them and their designated supervisor. They will also be required to understand and negotiate relevant ethical issues, where necessary, in relation to their research projects.
This module contains a six-week immersive learning element.
Finally, this module: a) will adhere to, and engage with, all ethical considerations (as laid out in this document – see ‘H. Ethical Issues’, above); b) when and where appropriate, it will make full use of Faculty-wide teaching expertise and technical support in its endeavour to fully integrate practice with theory.
