Module Aims

To develop the scope of the response Police officer with operational response policing skills. Analyse information, conducting investigations, addressing complex challenges and uphold public safety and trust in the policing service. 

To enhance the students understanding and knowledge of the key considerations with evidence-based problem solved policing, reviewing community and partnership working as well as the core functions of roads policing. 

Content Summary

Through a blended learning approach students will explore key elements associated with their development of skills required to perform the duties of an operational police constable, when attending a variety of incidents as a first responder. 

Taught sessions including sessions covering relevant legislation to the subject matter will be scaffolded by work-based and online independent learning, students will understand the need to establish grounds, legislation and authority to conduct safe lawful and effective searches.  

Students will review the application and influence of evidence-based policing, explaining the principles of prevention policing using problem-solving techniques. 

Through blended learning, including problem-based learning students will examine the key issues in relation to community policing and options for addressing them. Students will plan, apply and evaluate different policing approaches alongside partner organisations or as part of a multi-disciplinary team to address identified, often complex, issues, concerns and situations to reduce and prevent crime in communities. 

Using immersive learning students will explain the legislation and core functions of roads policing, including their responsibilities at a major or critical incident.  

During the module students will engage in blended learning focused on the legislation and importance of information and intelligence within a policing context. Students will examine fundamental skills and principles related to conducting investigations and interviews.
