Module Aims

To enhance the student’s enhance students’ knowledge on legislation, powers and Criminal Justice processes to identify and select most appropriate options within a variety of policing incidents. 

To develop the students understanding of victim and suspects vulnerabilities to help them inform the decision making process, and evidence gathering processes, including a multi-agency approach, in a policing context 

Content Summary

Through a blended learning approach scaffolded by some online independent learning, students will explore key legislation associated with victimology and perpetration, with a focus on the intricacies associated around public protection and complex investigations.  

Through taught sessions, including discussion, case studies, simulation exercises and scenario-based learning will introduce the student to identify the appropriate action at public protection incidents, exploring the importance of a multi-agency approach and the need for suspect and offender management as well as the statutory processes in Police custody.  

Blended scaffolded learning will introduce student to the criminal justice system, associated legislation and court processes, exploring the interpretation and analysis of evidence. 

The module further creates opportunity for students to develop evidence-based, problem-solving policing, developing strategies for obtaining best evidence to a given policing problem.
