Module Aims

To enhance the students' knowledge and understanding of the application of ethical policing, decision making and communication skills.

To develop the student's ability to support victims and witnesses within the criminal justice system as well as the importance of offender management.

To enhance students’ ability to provide an effective initial response and appropriately deal with a range of diverse and complex incidents and investigations.

Content Summary

Through a blended learning approach students will gain an understanding of the importance of valuing difference and inclusion, utilising a professional approach to their powers

Through work-based learning and the use of case studies and set exercises students will develop their decision making and communication skills enabling them to effectively interact with individuals, groups, and communities in various situations.

Students will explore the appropriate legislation and actions when dealing with the needs of victim and witnesses, exploring links between perpetration and victimisation.

The module includes exploring scene attendance including suspect and offender management, in particular exploring partnership working, alternatives to arrest, recording procedures.

Using immersive learning, including work-based learning students will apply practical skills when attending a variety of incidents as a first responder. Identifying and responding appropriately to issues of vulnerability, including their responsibilities at a major or critical incidents.

Through the blended learning approach students will consider the processes of using information and intelligence and demonstrate an understanding of practical issues pertaining to the collection process, as well as the retention and sharing of such data.
