Module Aims

To develop, understand and critically examine communication theory and developing relationships in complex environments with diverse populations. 

To critically analyse and apply theory, research and tools to assess development, attachment, physical and emotional health and wellbeing. 

To evaluate assessment strategies and critically explore bio-psychosocial theories and the relationship to health and wellbeing of individuals communities and populations.

Content Summary

Communication theory and strategies to enable and develop effective therapeutic relationship with children, adults and communities 

Communicate health information in a variety of modalities with consideration of health literacy 

Person centred, anti-discriminatory and culturally competent assessment and care 

Approaches to sustainable engagement with diverse populations, recognising and leading on adaptive and responsive approaches to ensure inclusion and participation for families, communities and populations 

Social/ psychological/ ecological and biological influences on physical and emotional health and wellbeing 

Screening and surveillance programmes immunisation and the management of minor ailments 

Child and adolescent development including mental health, neurodevelopment, sexuality, physical growth, nutrition with consideration to transition points and trauma in child’s lifespan

Attachment theory, genetics, genomics and the environment 

Parenting relationships, styles and boundary setting, perinatal mental health, risk factors and child safety 

Behaviour modification: sleep, healthy eating, toilet training, temper tantrums, social media use 

Loss and death, assessment, and support of complex health needs, referral and agency 

Evidence based interventions to promote physical and emotional health and wellbeing and motivate and influence positive health behaviours 

Professional judgement and decision making in complex situations to safeguard children, families and communities
