Module Aims

The main aim of the module is:

Introduce students to the foundational principles of research methods as relating to childhood studies, healthcare and psychology and develop their ability to apply these methods to real-world case studies through critical engagement with research design, data collection, and analysis.

Content Summary

This module explores key psychological approaches as they relate to health, childhood and psychology more generally. It introduces the role of the researcher, focusing on designing effective data collection methods such as surveys, interviews, and observations, using case studies to contextualize learning. Students then apply these methods to select secondary data, developing practical research skills. The next phase involves analysing the data to identify patterns, themes, and insights, using appropriate qualitative and quantitative techniques. Once analysed, students learn how to present findings clearly, using visual tools like charts and tables to enhance understanding. Finally, the module guides students through the process of writing a basic scientific paper, emphasizing structure, clarity, and academic integrity, ensuring findings are communicated effectively to both academic and professional audiences.
