Module Aims

The main aims of the module are:

  • To prepare students for graduate employment through direct engagement with industry and professional practice.

  • To develop awareness of personal resilience, wellbeing, and ethical responsibility as part of sustainable professional practice.

  • To enable students to present themselves as employable, reflective, and socially responsible media professionals.

Content Summary

This module represents a critical final step in preparing students for entry into the professional sports media industry. Through an extended industry placement and the development of a professional digital portfolio, students will apply the skills, knowledge, and behaviours acquired throughout the degree in real-world professional environments. They will reflect on their own practice, evaluate industry standards, and identify personal development goals to ensure long-term employability and career resilience. The placement experience provides a platform for students to experience editorial decision-making, teamwork, and creative problem-solving in live media contexts.

Simultaneously, the creation of a professional portfolio enables students to evidence their journalistic and technical competencies, ethical awareness, and communication skills across multiple media platforms. By completing this module, students will demonstrate confidence, professionalism, and readiness for graduate employment, freelancing, or further study in sports journalism and related industries.
