Module Aims

The main aims of the module are:

  • To enable students to design and deliver an original, independent journalism project that reflects professional standards.

  • To develop advanced editorial, technical, and ethical skills in multi-platform storytelling.

  • To prepare students for graduate employment through a professional-standard portfolio that demonstrates creativity, reflection, and employability.

Content Summary

This capstone module challenges students to design, produce, and present a substantial, original body of multi-platform sports journalism that showcases their creative, technical, and editorial expertise. Acting as both journalists and independent producers, students will develop and deliver an individual project that reflects professional practice and industry standards in sports media.

Working with close supervision and mentorship, students will manage all stages of production — from idea generation, research, and pitching, to execution, editing, and publication. The module emphasises independence, originality, and accountability, encouraging students to take ownership of their work while making informed ethical and creative choices.

The final output will take the form of a professional-standard portfolio that demonstrates readiness for graduate employment or further study. The project acts as both a culmination of students’ learning and a showcase of their journalistic identity — synthesising storytelling skill, technical competence, and reflective professional judgement.
