Module Aims

  • To provide an authentic workplace experience for students within the field of business and management

  • To build students’ confidence in the workplace and in professional contexts

  • To develop students’ ability to reflect on the workplace and apply the skills they have learnt in addressing challenges to a workplace context.

Content Summary

This optional level 5 module will allow students to have an authentic workplace experience as part of their degree.  Students who complete this module will undertake a 150-hour placement in a local business over 5 weeks – working Tuesday-Friday each week through this period, alongside classes every Monday building students’ skills and confidence in the workplace.

Although students will have to source their own placement, they will be offered significant support in finding and securing a suitable opportunity. ??This includes, support on CVs and applications (built into the first year of the course), specific internship preparation sessions in term 1 of year 2, and regular promotion of internship opportunities for students to apply to.

Throughout their placement, students will be encouraged to observe and reflect on workplace behaviours, ultimately identifying a challenge in their placement provider and writing a report for that company suggesting an initiative or improvement to address that challenge.

Overall, this module will allow students to build connections in the workplace, develop their CV, and have an authentic working experience within the field of Business and Management.
