Module Aims

  • Introduce core principles and methods underpinning inclusive, participant-centred coaching. 

  • Develop students’ knowledge of how to design, deliver, and evaluate safe and effective coaching sessions. 

  • Build students’ confidence in applying reflective practice to support their development as a coach. 

Content Summary

This module introduces the core principles and practices of sport coaching. You will examine key areas such as developing a coaching philosophy, promoting inclusive practice, planning and delivering coaching sessions, safeguarding participants, and working effectively with diverse groups. Learning takes place through flexible online materials, combining theoretical concepts with practical applications. This approach allows you to engage with content at your own pace and apply your learning during placement experiences. By completing this module, you will build the knowledge and skills required for effective coaching, aligned with industry expectations and professional standards. It provides a strong foundation for your degree by focusing on safe, inclusive, and participant-centred coaching. You will also begin to develop reflective practice, an essential skill for continuous improvement in your coaching career.
