Module Aims
The main aims of the module are:
To enable the student to undertake a period of supervised work experience under the direction of an employer (through a nominated supervisor) and a university placement partner.
To provide opportunities for students to critically evaluate practice and their own learning in the workplace.
Content Summary
This is a 30-week (minimum 1000 hours) work placement module designed to give you real-world experience aligned with your degree. It starts after your second year and adds an extra year to your course.
You find your own placement, but the University and Careers Service will support you before, during, and after.
Formal agreements will be made between you, and the employer and/or the university to clarify roles, expectations and responsibilities.
The placement will be structured with appropriate supervision and regular contact will be maintained appropriate to you and the workplace context.
A placement partner will help check suitability including health and safety, ensure agreements are in place, and visit you at least once per term.
The university and employers will work together to ensure the placement is inclusive and supportive, with reasonable adjustments made if needed.
Your placement will be designed to help you meet specific learning outcomes linked to your course considering subject and professional knowledge, skills and behaviours.
The placement will be monitored and reviewed, with feedback from both you and the employer.
You’ll be assessed against agreed objectives and will complete a reflective log to track your skill development.
