Module Aims

The main aims of the module are:

  • To develop self-awareness and understanding of personal leadership styles within football contexts.

  • To explore core leadership theories and their application to individual and team settings.

  • To encourage reflective practice and personal development planning aligned with leadership growth.

Content Summary

This module gives you the foundations of personal and professional leadership within the football industry. You will explore how self-awareness, communication, and ethical behaviour shape effective leaders on the pitch, in the community, and across football organisations.

Through challenge-based tasks and real-world case studies, you will examine how leadership operates at different levels of the football ecosystem, from the coach–player relationship to wider team and organisational dynamics. The emphasis is clear: you must learn to lead yourself before you can lead others.

You will reflect on your values, decisions, strengths, and performance behaviours, developing a deeper understanding of who you are as a leader and how you want to operate in professional environments. By the end, you’ll be equipped with the mindset and foundations needed to contribute positively within football settings and build towards more advanced leadership responsibilities later in the course.
