Module Aims

  • To enable students to collaboratively design, deliver, and present a team-based Grand Challenge project addressing a real-world issue aligned to a USW Accelerator.

  • To develop students’ skills in enquiry, problem-solving, teamwork and communication, providing a foundation for Level 4 study.

Content Summary

This module provides students with the opportunity to design, deliver, and present a Grand Challenge project within their chosen subject area. It serves as the capstone experience for the Foundation Year, enabling students to integrate and apply the academic and practical skills developed across their previous modules.

Students will choose and define a real-world issue or challenge linked to USW Accelerators, formulate an appropriate response or proposed solution, and select suitable methods of enquiry, design, or development to address the challenge. Through this process, students will develop skills in collaborative project planning, ideation, secondary research and analysis, problem-solving, and academic communication.

The Impact Challenge will be undertaken as a team project, reflecting the value of collaborative working in academic and professional contexts.

By completing this module, students will demonstrate their ability to work effectively with peers, manage a sustained piece of work as part of a team, and communicate their proposed solution or findings effectively.
