Module Aims

  • Enable students to evaluate how sustainability and ethics influence organisational decision-making and business performance.

  • Prepare students for professional roles through enterprise development, leadership skills and applied commercial practice.

Content Summary

This module develops advanced business, commercial and enterprise knowledge for students preparing for leadership and management roles in the built environment sector. Students will explore how organisations operate within construction and property industries and examine how innovation, sustainability and ESG, decarbonization, and ethical responsibility influence and underpin modern built environment business practice.

Through challenge-based learning, students will work in teams to develop a commercially viable built environment business proposal in response to a real-world problem or opportunity with consideration of ESG and net zero influences. The module focuses on strategic planning, financial decision-making, professional communication and reporting, and sustainability.

Students will critically analyse how environmental responsibility, regulation and governance shape commercial decisions in the built environment and how organisations balance economic performance with wider sustainability commitments and agendas. The module supports professional readiness by developing leadership capability, ethical awareness and entrepreneurial confidence, equipping graduates to operate effectively within competitive and sustainability-conscious industries.
