Module Aims

  • Critically evaluate the roles and responsibilities of construction team members under standard forms of contract. 

  • Evaluate procurement routes, risk allocation, and contract strategies to support informed contract and project decisions. 

  • Appraise pre-tender and post-tender processes, contract administration, and dispute resolution to inform effective project management decisions. 

Content Summary

The module conceptualises sustainable tendering and procurement strategy, contract selection, and risk management to deliver a diverse range of construction projects. It provides students with an enhanced understanding of procurement, the main forms of construction contract, their operation, and the roles and responsibilities of parties involved. It explores the construction team dynamics under standard forms of contract and examines practical applications of procurement routes and risk allocation in line with the RICS. Students will analyse key contracts with consideration of contract pricing strategies and client requirements. Key contractual processes, such as letters of intent, tendering procedures, and post-tender activities, including valuations, payments, and dispute resolution.
