Module Aims
The main aims of the module are:
To take responsibility to apply pedagogical theory in designing inclusive, participant-centred coaching programmes that promote effective learning and engagement.
To develop a critical understanding of how to design and sustain coaching environments that are inclusive and supportive for all participants.
To critically evaluate coaching practice through structured reflective processes that foster the ongoing development of coaching identity and professional behaviours.
Content Summary
This module builds upon foundational knowledge developed at Level 5, equipping students with advanced understanding and applied skills in strength and conditioning practice. It explores evidence-based training models, performance environments, program periodization, session planning, and collaborative approaches to athlete development through the lens of working with individuals and teams. Students will critically reflect on their own professional identity and philosophy, applying inclusive, scientifically informed strategies to optimize physical performance.
Through engagement with industry case studies, practical tasks, and reflective assessments, students will deepen their ability to adapt strength and conditioning programs to meet the physiological, psychological, and technical needs of athletes. The module strengthens applied coaching capabilities, critical thinking, and reflective practice, while fostering a deeper awareness of teamwork and leadership in performance settings. It prepares students for the complexities of modern strength and conditioning roles and supports employability across grassroots, community, academy, and high-performance environments.
