Module Aims
The main aims of the module are:
To introduce students to creativity and social pedagogy and encourage them to develop a broad understanding of how creativity and social pedagogy approaches can be applied in work in the social care sector with children, young people, families and communities.
To enable students to focus on how they can apply the values, principles and standards of social pedagogy, as well as creativity in a variety of professions, including, health and social care, social work, and working with children, young people, families and communities.
To provide students with the key principles, values and individual skills required to work within the sector, which includes legislation that promotes the rights and well-being of children, young people, families and communities, social pedagogy and person-centred approaches within practice.
Content Summary
This module will provide you with the opportunity to explore creativity and social pedagogy approaches and how to apply these in theory and practice when working in the fields of social care and related sectors with children, young people, families, and communities, as well as working in partnership with these.
You will explore recent relevant pedagogical research, social pedagogy approaches, as well as policies at organisational, local, national and international levels and will inform the module content.
You are expected to complete 16 hours of practice learning for this module which is underpinned by the Social Pedagogy Standards and Charter (SPPA, 2022) and the PCS model (Thompson, 2021) of the personal dimension.
