Content Summary

In this module you will develop and grow into a reflective, confident, and skilled practitioner. Exploring how theory connects to real-world practice and your own professional development, building the tools needed for a successful career working with children, young people, families, and communities.

You will critically examine the sector, whether your placement is in a public, private, or voluntary social care setting, and consider your role in supporting children, young people, families, and communities. As you progress through three years of the degree, expectations around professionalism and independence have increased, and this module will cement students through that journey, both in the classroom and on placement.

You will learn:

  • Safeguarding: You will become autonomous in safeguarding practice and understand your responsibilities and best practice of safeguarding.

  • Supervision, Coaching & Mentoring: You will develop these essential skills and experience both sides of the process.

  • Anti-Oppressive Practice: You will learn how to challenge inequality and promote inclusion.

  • Critical Reflection: You will build the ability to evaluate your practice and make informed decisions.

You will also have the unique opportunity to supervise, mentor or coach a peer, giving you practical experience in leadership as well as support.

You are expected to complete 50 hours of practice learning for this module which is underpinned by the Social Pedagogy Standards and Charter (SPPA, 2022) and the PCS model (Thompson, 2021) of the structural and societal dimension.
