Module Aims

The main aims of the module are to enable students to further develop and enhance their ability to:

  • Take an active role within the professional counselling and psychotherapy community, through communicating innovatively, impactfully and effectively with other professionals in sharing research informed advice, instruction and professional opinion in the spirit of collaboration, critical friendship and co-creation of a sustainable professional learning community.

Use reflexivity, reflective self-awareness and the active use of self to work at therapeutic and relational depth within professional counselling and psychotherapy practice.

Content Summary

This module explores contemporary themes and complex presentations within professional counselling and psychotherapy practice. It builds on previous core practitioner training that has been aligned with column B competencies of the SCoPEd Framework and supports professionally registered students in acquiring column C competencies as they work towards their own respective individual accreditation professional pathways. Through the establishment of peer supervision groups and critical discussion of real-world case studies, practical ethical dilemmas and theory-informed applications, students will proactively nourish and sustain their personal and professional well-being and therapeutic practice, in a manner that aligns with professional body expectations.
