Module Aims

This module aims to develop and contextualise the knowledge and skills related to business and management which students have been exposed to over the previous two years of study, working in groups to plan and complete a major capstone project.

The module will provide the opportunity for students to showcase their ability to work in the field of business, providing experience relevant to their future careers and building a portfolio that they can use to improve their employability through the completion of a major capstone project.

Content Summary

In this module, students will work in groups of 5 to complete a major capstone project.  This could include:

  • Running Regenerate Wales, a new Wales-wide digital sustainability conference for business school students

  • Planning and launching a startup business, including operating the business for at least a month.

  • Performing consultancy work for industry partners, addressing a real-world brief for the business.

  • Launching and running a business school society, including running networking events for business school students.

  • Involvement in the Immersed Festival or Cardiff Fringe Festival, run within FBCI

  • In groups of 5, competing primary research, supervised closely by an academic with full ethical approval and aiming for publication in a journal article.

These projects are designed to put into practice the skills and knowledge that students have learnt throughout their studies, and to prepare them for their future careers.

This module will begin with a 4-week taught element, with students assisted in developing their project, and focussing on skills related to groupwork and project management.  Students will be allocated a supervisor in their groups, who will support them in their project.

Students will have the option to choose the project that aligns closest to their professional goals.  At the end of the module, students will submit a portfolio of work associated with the project they have undertaken, as well as completing an individual presentation and viva, reflecting on the experience.
