Module Aims
The main aims of the module are:
To develop a comprehensive understanding human form and function as the basis for understanding the pathophysiology of disease.
To equip students with the ability to interpret complex diagnostic laboratory data and apply evidence-based pharmacological interventions to clinical challenges.
To cultivate essential professional behaviours through Team-Based Learning, emphasising accountability, leadership, and effective communication within a clinical framework.
Content Summary
Integrated Science and Practice
This module provides a comprehensive exploration of the human body in both health and disease, acting as a foundation to identify and analyse pathophysiological processes (LO1). By applying this knowledge to case-based problems, students will bridge the gap between biological theory and clinical reality.
Clinical Reasoning and Intervention
Students will learn to interpret potential diagnostic results e.g., imaging, biochemistry, or physiological markers and translate these into evidence-based pharmacological interventions (LO2).
Team-Based Learning (TBL) and Professionalism
Content is delivered via a Team & Case-Based approach, mirroring the collaborative nature of modern healthcare.
Leadership & Adaptability: Students must take turns leading their team through clinical cases, ensuring a professional conduct that sets a positive example for the cohort.
Collaborative Problem Solving: Teams are tasked with solving the central problem of \\\"what is wrong with the patient,\\\" requiring them to recognise their own knowledge limits and actively seek peer and staff critique.
Responsibility: Students are accountable for their independent and directed research, ensuring they are prepared to contribute to the team’s collective understanding of the case at hand.
