To develop advanced knowledge of endocrine and metabolic disorders, including the investigation and management of diabetes and other endocrine disorders.
To critically evaluate evidence-based approaches to pharmacological management, medicines optimisation, and safe prescribing within endocrinology and diabetes care.
To apply advanced clinical reasoning to the management of acute metabolic emergencies and complex chronic endocrine conditions within internal medicine practice.
Content Summary
This module develops advanced knowledge of endocrine and metabolic disorders, with particular emphasis on diabetes, acute metabolic emergencies, and the pharmacological complexity of long-term endocrine management. Endocrine conditions pervade internal medicine practice, encountered across acute, outpatient, and multidisciplinary settings, making this module essential to the programme's aim of equipping graduates for safe and patient-centred decision-making across diverse clinical contexts.
The module extends students’ ability to critically evaluate prescribing evidence, apply safe prescribing principles, and manage the acute and chronic complexity characteristic of endocrine disease. These skills directly complement and reinforce those developed across the other modules, and support the evidence-based reasoning demanded by the Capstone Project.
