Module Aims

  • To develop advanced knowledge of malignant and non-malignant haematological disease and common solid organ cancers encountered in internal medicine practice. 

  • To critically evaluate current evidence, systemic complications, and pharmacological principles relevant to oncological and haematological care. 

  • To apply analytical and clinical reasoning skills to the management of complex presentations, including oncological and haematological emergencies and the ethical dimensions of cancer care. 

Content Summary

This module develops advanced knowledge of malignant and non-malignant haematological disease and common solid organ cancers as encountered in internal medicine practice. Oncological and haematological presentations, including emergencies, systemic complications, and the ethical dimensions of cancer care demand a sophisticated integration of clinical, pharmacological, and patient-centred reasoning, making this module central to the programme's aim of developing graduates capable of managing complex, multisystem disease. 

The module extends students’ ability to critically evaluate systemic anti-cancer therapies, anticoagulation, and the psychological and ethical considerations inherent in oncological care. These competencies complement and deepen the pharmacological and evidence appraisal skills developed across the wider programme, further equipping students for the independent scholarly inquiry required by the Capstone Project.
