To develop an advanced understanding of renal and rheumatological diseases, including their assessment. investigation and management within an internal medicine context.
To critically evaluate the evidence and clinical principles underpinning the diagnosis and treatment of renal and musculoskeletal disorders.
To apply analytical and clinical reasoning skills to the safe management of complex renal, and musculoskeletal presentations.
Content Summary
This module develops an advanced understanding of renal and rheumatological disease; two specialties characterised by diagnostic complexity, systemic involvement, and significant pharmacological challenge. Renal impairment and musculoskeletal disease are encountered across virtually every area of internal medicine practice, and this module equips students to assess, investigate, and manage these conditions with analytical rigour and clinical confidence.
The module places particular emphasis on integrating current guidelines with independent clinical judgement in the management of complex, multisystem presentations. The breadth and complexity of conditions covered, from glomerular disease and systemic vasculitis to inflammatory arthritis and metabolic bone disease, develop the scholarly and analytical capabilities that connect across the full programme and culminate in the Applied Clinical Inquiry Capstone Project.
