Content Summary
This module develops advanced practitioners’ understanding of pharmacology and therapeutics to support safe, evidence-based medication management within non-prescribing roles. It focuses on the application of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles to clinical decision-making, ensuring that practitioners can safely manage medicines in patients with complex needs.
Students will explore drug classifications, mechanisms of action, interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects across major body systems. The module emphasises the impact of co-morbidities, patient-specific factors, and polypharmacy on medication safety and effectiveness.
Legal and professional responsibilities in medicines management are embedded throughout, alongside patient education and shared decision-making. Students will engage in case-based learning and applied pharmacology scenarios to support clinical reasoning and safe practice.
