Module Aims
To develop working knowledge of psychiatry, dermatology, ophthalmology, and ENT as they relate to general and acute internal medicine practice.
To critically evaluate evidence-based approaches to the recognition, initial investigation, and management of psychiatric, cutaneous, and sensory presentations.
To apply clinical reasoning skills to the appropriate management, referral, and interdisciplinary care of patients presenting with systemic and specialty-specific manifestations of disease.
Content Summary
This module develops a working knowledge of psychiatry, dermatology, ophthalmology, and ENT as they present within general and acute internal medicine. These specialties are frequently encountered in the undifferentiated and multimorbid presentations characteristic of internal medicine practice, and this module equips students to recognise, investigate, and appropriately manage or refer patients with psychiatric, cutaneous, and sensory manifestations of disease.
The module develops students’ ability to synthesise clinical findings and current evidence to support interdisciplinary decision-making - a skill that connects across the full programme and reflects the collaborative, patient-centred practice the course aims to foster. The breadth of specialties covered, and the emphasis on cross-specialty interface enrich the integrative clinical reasoning that underpins the Applied Clinical Inquiry Capstone Project.
