Module Aims

Critically explore contemporary issues influencing advanced clinical practice

Develop understanding of legal, ethical, political, and socioeconomic influences on healthcare

Enable critical evaluation of evidence in relation to professional and contextual factors

Content Summary

This module will enable you to explore the complex and evolving issues influencing advanced clinical practice within contemporary healthcare. You will examine how healthcare policy, professional regulation, technological innovation, research, population health and service transformation shape the role of the advanced practitioner and influence the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care.

Throughout the module, you will critically explore a range of contemporary topics, including professional accountability, digital healthcare, artificial intelligence, health inequalities, sustainability, leadership, workforce development, ethical decision-making and integrated models of care. You will consider how these issues impact patients, healthcare professionals and organisations while developing the knowledge and skills required to respond to an increasingly complex healthcare environment.

Learning will be centred around authentic healthcare challenges, encouraging you to analyse current practice, evaluate emerging evidence and policy, and develop innovative, evidence-informed approaches to improving patient outcomes and healthcare services. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own professional role and consider how advanced practitioners can influence practice, lead change and shape the future of healthcare.

By the end of the module, you will have developed the critical thinking, professional judgement and leadership required to respond confidently to contemporary challenges and contribute to the ongoing development of advanced clinical practice.
