Module Aims

To introduce students to the history of the University and its political / legal and cultural / linguistic environment, with the underlying theme of social justice.

Content Summary

This module explores USW in its historical and contemporary settings.  The main purpose is to introduce students to their chosen HE institution and the unique features of its political, legal, cultural and linguistic environs.  In so doing, students will be encouraged to foster a sense of belonging which will help them to

settle in more quickly, contribute more widely and carry with them a sense of pride during their time and after studying here.  Students originating from South Wales will be encouraged to enrich the materials provided by sharing their enhanced knowledge, whilst students originating from further afield will be encouraged to do so by drawing comparisons with their homelands, thereby leading to cultural exchange.  All students will be encouraged to get out and about to visit relevant sites and information will be provided so they can access Welsh language courses at the appropriate level if interested post module.
