Module Aims

  • To explain critical analysis techniques

  • To explain methods of communicating the outcomes of critical safety and hazard assessment

  • To explain legislation and regulations relevant to Explosives Engineering and Design

Content Summary

OME are used as a tool in the construction, demolitions and the hydrocarbon exploration and extraction industries, as well as in defence. If OME are not designed with safety in mind, both their intrinsic safety and their safety in manufacture, transport, storage, handling, and disposal, then accidents are more likely. Explosives engineers are required to consider not only risks from the OME but also risks to OME that could result in unintended initiation.

This module explains the principles, techniques and recognised good practices of safety and hazard assessment in the arena of explosives engineering. The module enables a student to engage in industry-recognised good practice in safety and hazard assessment, to contribute to risk assessment and to explain the outcomes of risk and hazard assessment.
