Module Aims

  • To explain the requirements and analysis needs of source material and effectively communicating technical information to the reader.

  • To identify and select appropriate multimedia applications for the compilation of instructional material, complex technical reports, and project documentation.

Content Summary

This module ensures that learners can effectively research, structure, and translate complex technical information into user-friendly documentation, within the ordnance, munitions and explosives (OME) environments found in the civil and defence sector, and other technical and/or high-hazard environments.

Technical authoring focuses upon written communication with the primary aim of conveying specific information; scientific, technical, and instructional, to a target reader audience in a clear and concise manner.

It focussing on writing, structuring and evaluating complex information using the foundational principles of clarity, conciseness, coherence, completeness and correctness, which are required to generate documentation that is easy to understand, remains accurate, and is actionable.

In this modern fast paced modern world mastering effective technical writing and specification development is key. This module bridges foundational theory with industry-aligned, practical documentation skills. It focuses on writing, structuring, and evaluating complex information to support the creation of clear technical reports and documents that make an impact and build credibility.

This module supports and augments the knowledge base gained in other modules of the course and the development of the student as a competent explosives technician or explosives engineer, capable of technical authoring and employable across the industry.
