Module Aims

  • To introduce students to the principles of sustainable business practice within the global aerospace sector, developing an understanding of the environmental, economic and social factors that influence organisational decision-making.

  • To develop students' awareness of the challenges and opportunities associated with achieving long-term sustainability in aerospace operations, manufacturing and supply chain activities.

Content Summary

This module introduces students to sustainable business practices within the global aerospace market while also providing an opportunity to develop basic hand skills and foundational aircraft maintenance competencies. Students explore the environmental, economic and social challenges facing contemporary society and examine how these issues influence responsible decision making across the aerospace sector.

Through guided learning, discussion and teamwork, students investigate key sustainability concepts—including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Net Zero Carbon strategies and Circular Economy principles—and consider how these ideas connect within real-world aerospace contexts. The module encourages students to analyse current industry challenges, debate emerging solutions and apply introductory problem-solving approaches to authentic scenarios. By combining practical aircraft related activities with broader sustainability themes, students begin to appreciate how innovative, ethical and future focused thinking supports both effective maintenance practice and long-term aerospace industry viability.
