Module Aims

• Understand a range of leadership and management styles and theories and how they can improve practices in settings
• To extend the development of professional, collaborative and pedagogical skills and knowledge acquired in Professional Learning and Practice 2; evidencing the relevant National Occupational Standards.
• To promote the innovative use of Welsh Language and activities which focus on Welsh culture

Content Summary

• Critical understanding of leadership and management and the different leadership theories and styles – including change management theories and ethical leadership.
• Theoretical and practical approaches to managing innovation and change and the barriers that might arise.
• Critical and theoretical understanding of the importance of collaboration and effective team working, including conflict resolution and change management.
• To continue to develop important skills in terms of reflection and academic writing, demonstrating a sound awareness between research, theory and practice.
• Extend and promote the use of Welsh language skills and an understanding of Welsh culture as can be applied in professional practice
• Students will need to pass (minimum of 40%) the ‘portfolio’ assessment in order to pass this module. In addition, the module must be passed successfully before progressing to the next level or completing the award. Successful completion will need to be supported and evidenced by a satisfactory Placement Monitoring Report where there are no significant ‘causes for concern’ identified in respect of the above learning outcomes including those documented in the Placement Handbook.
