Module Aims
To provide students with an understanding of the main approaches to psychology. These include the psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive and humanistic approaches.
Content Summary
This module will enable students to further their knowledge and understanding of human behaviour and the thoughts that drive this behaviour. Some branches of psychology advocate that a person's experiences in childhood will determine adult beliefs and behaviours others advocate free will and believe that adults have the ability to control and monitor their behaviour consciously. This module will consider four of the most influential approaches to psychology; namely psychodynamic (Freud), behavioural (Skinner), cognitive (e.g. Chomsky, Baddeley) and humanistic (e.g. Maslow, Rogers) approaches. Further, this module will address the ways in which these theoretical perspectives can be applied to different workplace situations.
