Module Aims

Develop the students understanding of the stages of the research process. To develop the students' skills in the use of Information Technology (IT) to search and access research literature and finally to develop the students' ability to critically analyse.

Content Summary

This module is designed to develop students' awareness and ability to read and interpret research methods and techniques. A wide range of skills will be developed to enable the student to development confidence and an ability to appraise research. Aspects of the research process will be explored, along with the many elements of good research design. These include generating research questions and hypotheses, reviewing the literature, planning and designing research, data collection, data analysis and presentation and interpretation of the results of research. Within the framework of the research process various research approaches and methods are explored, including, survey, case study, experimental methods, controlled trials and comparisons. The ethical issues involved in doing research are addressed in a dedicated session.
