Module Aims

To prepare students to be confident and competent members of the counselling profession with the ability to engage with and critically respond to the requirements for professional practice.

To facilitate in students the development of advanced self-reflective skills and personal attributes to evidence self-awareness to support the wellbeing of self and clients.

Content Summary

Personal Development:

Further development of self-awareness, resilience techniques and self-monitoring.

Self-evaluation and self-awareness used to build and strengthen the inner supervisor used to guide ethical practice and inform clinical supervision.

Experiential activities to further self-knowledge and self-awareness in preparation for employment.

Professional Development:

Working therapeutically with groups.

Knowledge of theory relating to working with groups.

Completing all elements to meet the BACP professional practice requirements evidencing practitioner competency.

*In order to meet the Professional Practice criteria for the course it is a requirement that you attend and actively participate in at least 80% of all timetabled lectures, meetings and other learning activities arranged as part of this module.

LO1 Demonstrate an understanding of and meet the professional practice requirements for completion of counselling practice hours as stated by BACP, to include supervision, evidencing pluralistic clinical practice to required standards, providing necessary documentation, and evidencing safe and ethical practice.
LO2 Demonstrate ability to use self-reflection at a deeper level to gain insight, evaluate self and learn from personal and client practice experiences to demonstrate ability to keep the self and clients safe.
